Adding Accoil as a Segment destination is a smooth way to track how users engage with your Apps.

Sending product data through Segment lets you monitor important metrics like:

  • Adoption which shows how deep accounts go with your apps

  • How well key accounts reach Activation

  • User and account Retention signals

  • Overall product Engagement

The best part: You don't need to worry about organizing or cleaning up your data first.

Keep reading to learn how to implement Segment and get your data flowing into Accoil.

1. Getting Started with Segment

Already have a Segment account and workspace? Skip to 2 below.

Start by creating a Segment account and workspace. You can sign up and get started by following Segment's official setup guide.

When your Segment workspace is ready, follow these steps to send product event data to Accoil:

  1. Create a Source: In your Segment workspace, create a new source to collect event data from your app. This could be a server-side or cloud application source.

  2. Install Segment's Tracking Library: Install the appropriate Segment tracking library in your SaaS application. Segment has installation instructions for different platforms. You can find them here.

  3. Connect to Accoil Analytics: After setting up your source and installing the tracking library, you can add Accoil Analytics as a destination. Go to the Destinations tab in Segment. Search for "Accoil Analytics" and following the prompts to complete the connection.

For more technical details, see Segment’s destination setup guide.

2. Key Events to Track

While Accoil can handle any event data you send, here are some important categories:

  • User Adoption: Events that indicate how new users get started with your product. Events like `User Signed Up` and `First Login`.

  • User Activation: Actions that show users engaging with key features of your product. Things like `Feature Used` and `Profile Completed`.

  • User Retention: Events that demonstrate ongoing engagement and return activity. Events like 'Subscription Renewed` and `Daily Active User`.

  • Overall Engagement: Metrics that capture broader interactions like `Page Viewed` or `Item Purchased`.

Learn more about tracking meaningful data on Segment's Spec Overview page.

3. Ensure Successful Data Flow

With your events set up, it's important to verify that data is flowing to Accoil Analytics the right way:

  1. Test Events in Segment: Use Segment’s debugger to monitor events coming from your product. Is the connection capturing events accurately and in real-time?

  2. Verify in Accoil Analytics: Log in to Accoil Analytics. Check that the events appear in your dashboard as expected. If there are discrepancies, revisit your event setup in Segment. You can also contact Accoil support for help.

  3. Data Validation: Double-check that data points match your expectations. Check your adoption, activation, retention, and engagement. Are they accurate? If you need to make adjustments, Segment offers tools to manage and transform data before sending it to Accoil. Segment's Guide to Data Validation is a good read for this.
